Novi Sad 1981 reunion as Cai Zhenhua moves through (Tokyo 1983)
Meeting face-to-face in the Novi Sad 1981 gold medal match, another head-to-head between Guo Yuehua and Cai Zhenhua will be required to decide the World Championships men’s singles title race with Cai also securing his ticket to the final here in Tokyo.
Taking on Wang Huiyuan at the semi-finals stage, Cai recovered from an 0-1 deficit on his way to a 3-1 win (16-21, 21-12, 21-11, 25-23).
Full distance affair ends in Guo Yuehua’s favour (Tokyo 1983)
Guo Yuehua and Jiang Jialiang have just played out an absolute thriller here in Tokyo with a place in the men’s singles final awaiting the winner.
A pretty even contest between the two Chinese stars, the standout game of the match was surely the third with Guo just about edging it 25-23. Jiang managed to force a decider with an immediate response but it wasn’t to be his day as Guo seals passage to a fourth consecutive World Championships final.
