Transfer Talk: Real Madrid to walk away from Mbappe offer?

The summer transfer window is into its final week for the major European leagues, which means the biggest clubs are looking to make a splash in the market while they still can. Check out the latest gossip below, and see all official deals here.

TOP STORY: Real Madrid give PSG deadline for Mbappe offer

Kylian Mbappe's move to Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain this summer could be in jeopardy with Spanish club threatening to withdraw their offer, according to reports in France.

Le Parisien reports that the LaLiga side have sent PSG an ultimatum if the club are unprepared to accept their reported offer of €180 million for the World Cup winner.

The report claims that the hierarchy at the Santiago Bernabeu would like any potential move to be completed by Sunday -- or they will walk away from the negotiations.

The 22-year-old Mbappe has been linked with a move away from Ligue 1 since failing to agree on a new deal with PSG.

With just one year left on his contract, Real Madrid's pressure could force the French club into accepting to avoid losing the star on a free transfer next summer.

If the deal is derailed, it could affect PSG's post-Mbappe plans with sources telling ESPN that the club has targeted Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski, Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland, or Everton's Richarlison as a replacement.

Marcotti: Hazard joining Juventus on loan would be madness

Gab Marcotti dismisses the possibility of Juventus acquiring Eden Hazard on loan from Real Madrid.

13.02 BST: Wolves winger Adama Traore wants to join Tottenham before the summer window closes, according to Cadena SER.

Traore, 25, has asked agent Jorge Mendes to make a move happen so he can rejoin his former boss Nuno Espirito Santo at the London club.

The winger has two years remaining on his contract and Wolves reportedly want around £40m to complete a deal.

12.39 BST: The Guardian reports that West Ham are close to signing CSKA Moscow midfielder Nikola Vlasic for €30m, plus €8m in add-ons.

Vlasic, 23, was part of Croatia's squad at Euro 2020 and AC Milan have been following him as well, but the Hammers are set to beat them to his signature.

The No. 10 will be signed instead of Man United's Jesse Lingard as the report states: "The London Stadium club have been put off by the £25m fee United are demanding for Lingard, who only has a year left on his current deal. Vlasic, five years younger than Lingard, is seen as better value for money."

12.18 BST: Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has said it is frustrating the club are unable to compete with Manchester United, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain in the transfer market.

Barca have replaced Lionel Messi with Memphis Depay and Sergio Aguero, both players arriving on free transfers, but financial limitations have prevented them from spending any money, despite Koeman's desire to strengthen the squad. Barcelona president Joan Laporta has revealed that the club's debt now totals €1.35 billion.

"On the one hand I understand it," Koeman said in a news conference on Saturday when asked if he sympathised with the supporters' frustrations. For everyone that wants the best for the club, it's frustrating, I understand it. On the other hand, we have to be realistic. Economically, the club can't compete with other clubs, with Paris, City, United. That's how it is at the moment.

"We can't demand what has been demanded before at this club. We have to understand the moment the club is in."

Koeman had hoped Barca would be able to move on some of their bigger earners to make room for another addition in attack before the transfer window closes on Tuesday. However, the Dutch coach has been angered by certain players' decisions to stay at put at Camp Nou, leaving him with a far bigger squad than he would like.

"The club know what I want and who I want to keep working with," he added. "I have always said I respect the players with contracts, but everyone knows perfectly well who we count on in this squad and who will have a hard time playing games.

"For some players, it's very complicated and it's not good for them or for us. If we have all our players back, we are going to have 31, 32 players. It's impossible to work with that many. How can a coach manage 32 players?"

Samuel Umtiti is one of the players set to stay at Barca despite the club trying to move him on, but Koeman confirmed Miralem Pjanic and Ilaix Moriba could both leave before Tuesday's deadline.

12.00 BST: Lionel Messi has been included in Paris Saint-Germain's squad for Sunday's Ligue 1 trip to Reims.

Messi, 34, signed a two-year deal with PSG with an option for a third year after his contract with Barcelona expired, but has yet to feature in the squad since joining on Aug. 10.

PSG forward Kylian Mbappe, who is the subject of transfer interest from Real Madrid before the window shuts on Tuesday, was also included alongside Brazil forward Neymar and Messi.

Messi has not played since winning the Copa America with Argentina against Brazil on July 11.

11.33 BST: Borussia Dortmund let Jadon Sancho join Man United for €85m earlier in the window and Sky Sports reports they are in talks to sign Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi on loan as his replacement.

Hudson-Odoi, 20, has struggled to nail down a starting spot under manager Thomas Tuchel but could opt for a move to get more first-team football.

Sources told ESPN that Bayern Munich made a bid to sign the England forward in October 2020 but it was rejected.

Gab not surprised by 'horrendous' performance by Juventus

Gab Marcotti explains why he is not surprised by Juventus' poor performance in their 1-0 loss to Empoli.

10.44 BST: Burnley have completed the €15m signing of Maxwel Cornet from Lyon.

Cornet, 24, joins the Clarets on a five-year deal after netting 51 goals in a seven-year spell with Lyon. The Ivory Coast international can operate in several attacking and defensive roles on either flank and will bring versatility to Sean Dyche's side.

"I am excited to be joining Burnley in the Premier League and to play with and against many of the greatest players in the world," he said. "I have developed the greatest respect for Burnley and what the club has done. I welcome the challenge of hard work and am fully committed to doing what I can to contribute. I look forward to what we can achieve."

Though social media has been enjoying the fact he clearly wanted to join Umbro instead.

10.00 BST: Bild reports that Bayern Munich have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig for the €16m transfer of midfielder Marcel Sabitzer.

Sabitzer, 27, looks set to bolster a midfield that could see Corentin Tolisso and Michael Cuisance depart this summer. The Austria international scored nine goals in 39 games last season for Leipzig, who have reportedly identified Barcelona's teenage star Ilaix Moriba as his replacement already.

Meanwhile, Bild also claims Jonas Hofmann's proposed transfer from Gladbach to Bayern has fallen through.

09.34 BST: Sky Sports also says that Tottenham are in talks with Barcelona over the permanent signing of right-back Emerson Royal.

Fabrizio Romano said yesterday that Tottenham's first offer included a swap deal for Serge Aurier but was rejected. The 22-year-old right-back has made two substitute appearances for Ronald Koeman's side since signing permanently for the club this summer.

09.22 BST: Sky Sports claims that Arsenal winger Willian is set to rescind his contract in a bid to join Brazilian side Corinthians.

Arsenal signed the Brazil international on a three-year deal in August 2020 after the 32-year-old's contract with Chelsea expired, but has fallen out of favour after a poor first season at the club.

"Incredible gesture by Willian," tweeted journalist Kaveh Solhekol. "He is tearing up his Arsenal contract. Saving Arsenal £20m. He has two years left on £240,000 a week deal but instead of just sitting back and taking the money or asking for a pay off off, he is walking away to sign for Corinthians on 70% less wages."

09.00 BST: West Ham United have signed France defender Kurt Zouma from Chelsea on a four-year contract, the two Premier League clubs announced on Saturday.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed but British media reported that West Ham would pay about £25m for the 26-year-old centre-back.

With Zouma's transfer complete, it could spell progress toward Chelsea bringing in highly touted defender Jules Kounde from Sevilla FC.

Sources had told ESPN's James Olley earlier this week that Chelsea were hopeful of completing a deal worth in the region of €50m for Kounde once Zouma's situation was settled.

Kounde, 22, is keen on a move to Chelsea but Sevilla are believed to be demanding the majority of any transfer fee paid up front. The exact fee and the structure of payments are yet to be formally agreed but sources told ESPN the two clubs are nearing an agreement.

How Ronaldo's Man United return benefits his teammates

Luis Garcia explains the impact Cristiano Ronaldo will have in the dressing room at Old Trafford after rejoining Manchester United.

PAPER GOSSIP (by Adam Brown)

- Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival at Manchester United will see Daniel James leave on loan, according to The Sun. The report claims that multiple Premier League clubs have registered their interest in the winger, with both Everton and Crystal Palace enquiring about the Wales international. The 23-year-old scored five goals last season but could see his playing time hampered with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side signing Ronaldo on Friday.

- Amad Diallo's move to Feyenoord has been agreed in principle, according to Jonathan Shrager. The Manchester United winger has been attracting interest from a host of clubs and he will be allowed to garner more experience abroad before returning to challenge for a first-team place. The 19-year-old joined United from Atalanta last season for a fee of €41m.

- Moise Kean looks to be on the way out of Everton, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the forward will complete his move to Juventus. Talks between the Turin-based side and the Toffees advanced quickly after the return of Ronaldo to Manchester, with Massimiliano Allegri's side identifying the 21-year-old as a player who could help add goals to the frontline. Kean scored 16 times while on loan at PSG last season.

- Patrick Vieira is continuing to strengthen his side with the Daily Mail reporting that Crystal Palace have tabled a £15m offer for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard. The The 23-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs around Europe this summer and has contributed to three goals in as many league appearances in the Scottish Premier League this season.

- Everton are interested in a move for Arsenal wing-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles, according to Sky Sports. It is reported that a number of clubs are keen on the 23-year-old, but it is Everton who are looking to advance negotiations before the end of the transfer window. The Gunners star has been involved with the first team since returning from a loan move to West Brom, and played 19 minutes in Arsenal's 5-0 defeat to Manchester City.

- West Ham United have returned to the negotiating table for Jesse Lingard with David Moyes keen to bring the Manchester United star back to the London Stadium. The Daily Star writes that the club would like to do a deal before the end of the transfer window, and Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna says that the Old Trafford hierarchy would be prepared to let their midfielder go. The 28-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Hammers last season.

- A deal for Teun Koopmeiners to join Atalanta is close, writes Calciomercato. It is reported that the AZ Alkmaar midfielder will arrive in Serie A for a fee believed to be under €20m. The 23-year-old was a key figurehead for the Dutch side last season, scoring 16 goals and assisting seven in 37 games.
