Rain ruined Perth Scorchers' run towards their third straight win after an unbeaten 135-run partnership between Beth Mooney and Chamari Athapaththu against Sydney Thunder ended in vain as the heavens opened at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide.
Mooney made her second half-century in two days, and her fourth 50-plus score of the tournament, scoring 83 not out from 53 balls while Athapaththu clubbed 70 not out from 42 balls as Scorchers posted an imposing 2 for 184.
Thunder were 1 for 21 after 2.3 in reply when rain ended the match. Marizanne Kapp became just the third player in WBBL history to claim 100 wickets when she bowled Hannah Darlington. Kapp, the first non-Australian to reach the milestone, joins Molly Strano and Jess Jonassen on the list.
Mooney continued her outstanding form as the WBBL's leading scorer striking 13 boundaries in her 83 not out. Athapaththu produced her highest WBBL score striking eight fours and two sixes. The pair's 135-run stand came off just 13.3 overs. Thunder's bowlers had no answers after Sammy-Jo Jonson made the early breakthrough dismissing Sophie Devine. Chloe Piparo fell in the 7th over before Mooney and Athapaththu took control.
