International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach said on Wednesday the sports organisation will always champion "political neutrality" as the UK and Canada became the latest nations - after the United States and Australia - to announce a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, which are due to be held in February.
On Wednesday, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said no ministers will attend the Games due to alleged human rights abuses in China - and Canada followed suit later in the day.
Bach revealed he is confident from his video calls with Peng Shuai that the tennis star is not being put "under pressure."
Concerns have been raised over the 35-year-old's safety and well-being after Peng alleged in November that she had been sexually assaulted by a senior official in China's government.
