SANDUSKY, Ohio Luke Fenhaus is set to return to the NASCAR Truck Series for multiple NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races this season with ThorSport Racing, driving the No. 66 Soda Sense Ford F-150, with Crew Chief Doug George.

Fenhaus is set to compete in his first race of the year in the FR8 208 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Feb. 22. His first outing will be followed by multiple events throughout the year.

Monday, 17 February 2025 11:09

OCALA, Fla. Always looking for more opportunities to promote Burnyzz Speed Shop and feed his competitive nature Top Fuel team owner and driver Josh Hart will campaign a Burnyzz Speed Shop branded Dodge Challenger for the entire 2025 Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown Series along with his R+L Carriers Top Fuel dragster in the Mission Foods NHRA Drag Racing Series.

Hart will be teaming up with the current Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown Series team owner and competitor David H. Davies, owner of DHDR.

I have had a Factory Stock Dodge Challenger since the series was announced, said Hart. These race cars are practically pieces of art, and I didnt want to cut mine up to race it. David told me we could get set up and keep it beautiful and I jumped at the chance. This is the perfect class to also promote Burnyzz Speed Shop, so you are going to see more promotion on that front as well. Its been a while since I shifted going down the track, but I have some experience from early in my racing career.

Harts Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown entry will sport the unique flame design that has been a part of the Burnyzz Speed Shop logo from day one. He will get at-track support from Wesley Motorsports and Factory Stock Showdown power guru A.J. Berge will also be working with his team. The strong collection of talent along with the experience from DHDR has laid a strong foundation for the 2025 Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown Series season.

Josh is a great racer and the ultimate car guy, said Davies. He is a life-long Dodge guy who has the skills to drive anything. He will be a great addition to the class, and we are all looking forward to seeing him on track. Having a Top Fuel team owner come over is huge for us and the Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown series.

Hart will become the second dual class Factory Stock and nitro driver in the series history. Leah Pruett raced in both classes from 2017 to 2021 winning the Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown Series world championship in 2018. The Burnyzz Speed Shop Dodge Challenger will make its debut at the historic NHRA Gatornationals, March 6-9, 2025, at Gainesville Raceway.

M. Tkachuk out, Canada defenseman Makar returns

Published in Hockey
Monday, 17 February 2025 10:31

BOSTON -- Team USA star Matthew Tkachuk will not play against Sweden in the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off on Monday night.

But in the first game Monday afternoon, Canada will have All-Star defenseman Cale Makar back in the lineup after he missed Saturday's loss to the U.S. due to illness.

American coach Mike Sullivan said that New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider will draw in for Tkachuk, who sat out the final 12:36 of the third period of Team USA's win over Canada with a lower-body injury. Tkachuk set the tone in that game with the first of three fights between the teams in the opening nine seconds on Saturday night, setting a new record for the earliest fight ever in an NHL international game.

The Florida Panthers forward's absence on Monday wasn't a total surprise, as the U.S. has already clinched a spot in Thursday's championship game at TD Garden in Boston.

Sullivan announced two other lineup changes against Sweden, as defenseman Jake Sanderson (Ottawa Senators) swaps in for Charlie McAvoy (Boston Bruins) and Jake Oettinger (Dallas Stars) gets the start in goal, earning Connor Hellebuyck a breather. The Winnipeg Jets goalie has been the tournament's best netminder, giving up just two goals on 47 shots (.957 save percentage). Oettinger played three years of college hockey at Boston University.

Sweden might not have anything to play for against the U.S. If either Canada or Finland wins its game in regulation time, that winner advances to the championship match against the Americans. If the game goes to overtime, then Sweden can still make the championship final with a regulation win over the U.S.

In addition to adding Makar, Canada coach Jon Cooper put in Philadelphia Flyers winger Travis Konecny in place of Carolina Hurricanes winger Seth Jarvis in the win-or-go-home game.

Cooper confirmed he's sticking with Jordan Binnington as his starter. The St. Louis Blues goalie is 1-1 with a 2.41 goals-against average and a .896 save percentage.

"The kid's played great for us. He's given us a chance to win. Ultimately in the NHL, if you can limit an opponent to two goals or less in a game, it should give you a chance to win. And he's done that for us," Cooper said of Binnington.

Casemiro keen to 'play more,' see out Man Utd deal

Published in Soccer
Monday, 17 February 2025 12:06

Casemiro has said he would like to stay at Manchester United until his contract expires in 2026, despite a challenging 2024-25 season which has seen the team struggle and the midfielder lose his place as a regular starter.

The Brazil international -- who joined United from Real Madrid in 2022 -- started in their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday. Before that, he had been benched for 10 of United's previous 11 league games under coach Ruben Amorim, with his side languishing in 15th in the Premier League table.

"I have to keep doing what I'm doing, with a lot of respect, and good behaviour," Casemiro told Diario AS in an interview published on Monday.

"Of course, I'd like to play more. I don't know any player who doesn't want to play. And I want to help the club at this time. I face things with respect for my teammates and the staff, and above all, respect for United."

"I have a year and a half left on my contract, and I'd like to see it out here in Manchester. I'm comfortable here, and my family is too. They've adapted, we speak English. I'm very grateful to the fans and the club. I'm happy at the club. Happy on the bench? Of course not, that's something else."

Casemiro moved to Old Trafford in a 70 million ($73.3m) deal in August 2022, having won five Champions Leagues and three LaLiga titles in nine years at Real Madrid, forming part of a legendary midfield trio with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. However, he has faced frequent criticism for his performances at United, with some claiming he is now past his best.

"I'm young, and I've got a lot left to give," Casemiro told AS. "I'm about to turn 33. Nowadays that's like being 28 before -- with nutrition, physical preparation, all that extending a player's career if you look after yourself. That's why Cristiano [Ronaldo] is still scoring 50 goals a season, at 40 years old."

Casemiro urged former teammate Vinícius Júnior to "look at how important making history is" when considering leaving Madrid for Saudi Arabia, and said he has been impressed with Kylian Mbappé's form this season at the Santiago Bernabéu.

"Mbappé is an unstoppable player," he said. "I played against him in the Champions League in Paris [in 2022]. He did it all. We lost 1-0, to his goal ... Afterwards I spoke to the president [Florentino Perez] and said 'Sign him. He is impossible to stop.'"

Madrid meet with refereeing body over VAR audio

Published in Soccer
Monday, 17 February 2025 12:06

Real Madrid executives met with the head of Spain's refereeing body on Monday, after the club filed a formal complaint over the referee's decisions in their 1-0 LaLiga defeat at Espanyol earlier this month.

Madrid were furious at referee Alejando Muñiz Ruiz for opting not to send off Espanyol defender Carlos Romero for a challenge on Kylian Mbappé -- with Romero later scoring the game's only goal -- and sent an open letter to the Spanish football federation [RFEF] on Feb. 4, requesting access to audio of conversations between officials surrounding the incident.

The complaint accused officials of "manipulation and adulteration" of the competition, saying Spain's refereeing system was "completely discredited," in allegations which drew an angry response from the federation, LaLiga and other clubs.

On Monday, Madrid's director general José Ángel Sánchez and secretary of the club's board, José Luis del Valle, attended RFEF headquarters in Las Rozas, outside Madrid, to listen to the VAR audio, and for discussions with the head of Spain's technical committee of referees [CTA], Luis Medina Cantalejo.

"It's normal that there are questions that have to be asked about an incident," Medina Cantalejo told journalists. "We talked about various issues, which are internal -- not internal because they're secret, but because they're private matters -- which relate to the CTA, and a club which comes here to talk to us, and we talk to them.

"Obviously [the meeting] took a while, because within an atmosphere of friendliness and good manners, that's what had to happen. If there'd have been a confrontation, which isn't what anybody expected or wanted, the meeting would have been over in five minutes. It was so long because we spoke with absolute transparency and truth."

Madrid have frequently complained about refereeing decisions in LaLiga, with the club's TV channel, Real Madrid TV, regularly highlighting errors from officials.

After the Espanyol game, Madrid were also unhappy with refereeing decisions in their 1-1 derby draw with Atlético Madrid on Feb. 8, and their 1-1 draw at Osasuna on Saturday.

"In our last three games, things have happened that everybody has seen. But I don't want to say anything more about that, because I want to be sat on the bench for the next match," coach Carlo Ancelotti said. "I think there's a problem [with referees]. In the last three games something has happened that shouldn't have happened."

Sources told ESPN that following the meeting, Real Madrid were still unable to understand the decision not to send off Romero. The club have demanded changes, sources said, but believe their complaint has left them exposed, given refereeing decisions in subsequent games.

By contrast, the federation felt the talks had been positive, sources said, and Madrid had been treated in the same way as any other club.

Arsenal fined for reaction to Lewis-Skelly red

Published in Soccer
Monday, 17 February 2025 12:06

Arsenal have been fined 65,000 ($82,000) after their players were deemed to have behaved in an "improper way" following Myles Lewis-Skelly's red card against Wolverhampton Wanderers last month.

Lewis-Skelly was sent off in the 43rd minute -- much to the annoyance of manager Mikel Arteta -- and the Arsenal players surrounded referee Michael Oliver afterwards.

Arsenal went on to win the game 1-0 thanks to a Riccardo Calafiori goal, while Lewis-Skelly's red card was rescinded three days later.

"An independent Regulatory Commission has imposed a 65,000 fine on Arsenal in relation to the Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday 25 January," read a statement from the English Football Association.

"It was alleged that Arsenal failed to ensure their players did not behave in an improper way around the 43rd minute, and the club subsequently admitted to this charge."

The regulatory commission imposed the fine after a hearing, and published written reasons.

The statement included a letter from Arsenal, who stressed that the "players were civil and not aggressive," "were not gesticulating or accusatory" and "they did not behave in a way which was offensive, violent, threatening, abusive, indecent, insulting or provocative."

But the FA submitted a reply which said "there were, at times, nine AFC players in very close proximity to the referee." and that the red card "being overturned on appeal does not justify the reaction and affords no mitigation."

The response also said that Arsenal competing at the top of the league afforded no mitigation.

Arsenal have the most red cards in the Premier League this season, with four. Arteta's side are seven points off league leaders Liverpool.

Miami iced: CCL match vs. KC moved to Feb. 19

Published in Soccer
Monday, 17 February 2025 12:06

Inter Miami's first-leg match of the Concacaf Champions Cup against Sporting Kansas City will now be played on Feb. 19, after the sporting organization decided to postpone the event by 24 hours due to the adverse weather conditions in Kansas City.

According to multiple weather reports, a winter snowstorm is expected to bring between four to seven inches of snow across the city.

"The decision to reschedule the match has been made to prioritize player and fan safety, and in close coordination with the two participating clubs and the local authorities," Concacaf said in a statement.

New Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano said in the pre-match news conference that the two teams remained in communication over the possibility to move the match to a different date, as both agreed on the difficulty of playing in harsh conditions.

"It's not just a matter of the game, if the snow falls like they say is going to fall, we believe that the city is going to completely collapse, so people won't be able to go to the field, the accesses may be closed. Many times you only think about the game itself and not everything that surrounds it," he said.

Before Concacaf confirmed the postponement of the match, Mascherano clarified that Lionel Messi would be participating in the confrontation against Sporting KC regardless of the conditions. Inter Miami's game plan will not vary depending on the weather.

"Messi's availability is 100% and I can guarantee that Leo will play," he said.

"The reality is that the lineup and the plan are not going to change much, that is, the reality is that we will try to be protagonists and try to follow the same line that we have shown throughout the preseason. Clearly the weather factor, especially if there is snow, can harm or condition the facts of our game, but obviously we are going with the hope of being able to achieve a good result that will put us on the path to the playoffs."

Inter Miami will now officially kick off the 2025 campaign on Wednesday night against Sporting Kansas City at 8 p.m. ET.

Major League Soccer on Monday clarified that Inter Miami's season opener against New York City FC, currently set for Saturday at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, will go on as scheduled.

Sri Lanka have left out left-arm spinner Inoka Ranaweera and seam-bowling allrounder Ama Kanchana for their upcoming New Zealand tour comprising three ODIs and three T20Is.

Apart from them, batter Hasini Perera and 16-year-old left-arm wristspinner Shashini Gambini are also missing from the squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka's last international assignment.

There are several young additions to the squad. Manudi Nanayakkara and Rashmika Sewwandi, who turned out for Sri Lanka in the Under-19 World Cup earlier this year, have been called up. While it's a maiden call-up for Nanayakkara, Sewandi was picked for the home T20Is against West Indies last year but did not get a game.

Chethana Vimukthi, 23, is the other uncapped player in the squad, while Imesha Dulani and Kaushini Nuthyangana have five caps each and Sachini Nisanla has just 19.

Sri Lanka will retain a familiar top order in their captain Chamari Athapaththu, Harshitha Samarawickrama and Vishmi Gunaratne, who despite being just 19 has already played 18 ODIs and 47 T20Is.

Athapaththu is currently playing in the WPL in India where she is part of UP Warriorz. The tournament is scheduled to run until March 15.

Sri Lanka's squad will leave for New Zealand on February 22. They are scheduled to play two warm-up games in Lincoln, on February 27 and 28, before the ODI series starts in Napier on March 4. The other two ODIs will be played in Nelson on March 7 and 9. The teams will then go to Christchurch for the first two T20Is on March 14 and 16, and finish the tour in Dunedin on March 18.

Sri Lanka Women squad for New Zealand ODIs and T20Is

Chamari Athapaththu (capt), Harshitha Samarawickrama, Vishmi Gunaratne, Nilakshika Silva, Kavisha Dilhari, Anushka Sanjeewani, Manudi Nanayakkara, Imesha Dulani, Achini Kulasuriya, Udeshika Prabodhani, Sachini Nisansala, Kaushini Nuthyangana, Inoshi Priyadarshini, Sugandika Kumari, Rashmika Sewwandi, Chethana Vimukthi

Alex Hales is set to skip both the T20 Blast and the Hundred after signing a deal which will see him represent Knight Riders franchises in both Major League Cricket and the Caribbean Premier League.
Hales, 36, retired from international cricket in 2023 but has continued to play franchise cricket around the world, and became the second-highest run-scorer in T20 history earlier this month. He has played for Nottinghamshire since 2008 but has recently relocated to Dubai and will not return to the club this summer after opting not to sign a new contract.

The decision will put Hales' long-term association with Trent Bridge on hold, though he has not ruled out a future return. He has called the venue home throughout his professional career and is the leading run-scorer for both Notts (in the Blast) and Trent Rockets (in the Hundred), winning titles with both teams.

Last year, Hales missed six of Nottinghamshire's 14 group games in the Blast to fulfil a contract at the Lanka Premier League but the ECB has since tightened regulations on No-Objection Certificates (NOCs). As a result, signing a contract with either Notts or Trent Rockets would likely have rendered Hales unable to play overseas throughout the English season.

ESPNcricinfo has learned that he will instead take up an offer from the Knight Riders franchise, which will see him play for their Los Angeles and Trinbago teams in MLC and the CPL respectively. Depending on final dates, he may also return to the LPL in between the two tournaments, or alternatively feature in the new European T20 Premier League in Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands.

Knight Riders own four teams around the world - Los Angeles, Trinbago, Kolkata and Abu Dhabi - and several players have represented them in two or more territories, including Sunil Narine and Andre Russell. Venky Mysore, their chief executive, has previously suggested that players signing year-round contracts with an IPL franchise would be "nirvana" and Hales' move appears to be another step towards that.

"The last 17 years playing at Trent Bridge for Notts have been an absolute pleasure, and it remains my favourite place in the world to play cricket," Hales said in a statement. "Some of my best memories have come in a Notts shirt, and some of my closest friendships in the game have been made in that home dressing room.

"Having spent more and more time playing around the world in recent years, heading back to Trent Bridge has always been something I've looked forward to. But given the current landscape of the global game as well as having recently moved abroad, unfortunately I won't be able to return this season Hopefully I will be able to return at some point in the future."

Mick Newell, Notts' director of cricket, said that Hales would be welcome to return to the club if his schedule allows in future. "While he won't be joining us this summer, we are by no means closing the door on him making a return to Notts at some stage in the future, and his achievements mean he will forever have a place in Trent Bridge history," Newell said.

"Both his life and the global cricketing landscape have changed immeasurably since he made his debut 17 years ago. We appreciate the challenge he has faced in balancing his personal life, having recently married his South African fiancée and moved abroad, with the opportunities that a player of his calibre earns across the globe."

Hales will become the second Englishman to feature in MLC after Jason Roy, who terminated his ECB incremental deal early in order to play in the first season. Roy featured for Knight Riders again last year but has not been retained for 2025, and is likely to play for Surrey throughout the Blast season.

He will still require a "No Objection Letter" from the ECB to play overseas but is not anticipating any issues, despite recent changes in the board's policy. Richard Gould, the ECB's chief executive, told talkSPORT in December: "If [players] choose not to have a contract with a county and they want to be a complete global freelancer, that's fine."

The changes - which Gould said are designed to "defend our game" from the threat of franchise cricket - played a role in James Vince's decision to quit first-class cricket this season in favour of the Pakistan Super League. Tom Kohler-Cadmore will also play in the PSL, and has therefore been renegotiating his Somerset contract accordingly.
