CHICAGO -- The White Sox reinstated starter Mike Clevinger and infielder Elvis Andrus from the injured list Friday while optioning pitcher Jesse Scholtens to Triple-A Charlotte and designating infielder Hanser Alberto for assignment.
Clevinger (3-3, 4.56 ERA), who has been out since May 18 because of a wrist injury, will start Friday night's game against the Detroit Tigers.
Andrus returns after recovering from an oblique strain. He has been out since May 13.
The play of infielder Romy Gonzalez made Alberto expendable. Gonzalez recently had home runs in three consecutive games and could see increased playing time at second base despite the return of Andrus.
Scholtens had appeared in five games this season for the White Sox, compiling a 3.24 ERA over 16⅔ innings.
The St. Louis Cardinals have placed Lars Nootbaar on the 10-day injured list after he hurt his back playing in the outfield this week.
Nootbaar exited Monday's loss to the Kansas City Royals after slamming into the wall catching a drive in the second inning then pulling up while chasing a hit in the third.
He had not played since Monday, and the IL move for a lower back contusion is retroactive to Tuesday.
The Cardinals recalled rookie outfielder Jordan Walker in a corresponding move.
Walker started the season on the major league roster but was sent down to Triple-A Memphis after going 7-for-35 over a 10-game stretch.
Nootbaar is hitting. 266 with four home runs and 21 RBIs this season. He missed two weeks after jamming his left thumb on Opening Day.
Walker, a first-round pick out of high school in 2020, was hitting .274 with two home runs and 11 RBIs for the Cardinals prior to his demotion.
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon won't be charged for his role in an altercation with a fan on Opening Day, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.
The incident occurred on March 30 in Oakland, when video showed Rendon grabbing the shirt of a fan who had heckled him. The video also showed Rendon addressing the fan with an expletive shortly after the final out of the Angels' 2-1 loss.
The Times said police in Oakland investigated the incident as a possible misdemeanor assault and misdemeanor battery and decided not to file charges, according to a redacted report reviewed by the newspaper. The case now is closed.
On April 3, Rendon accepted a four-game suspension and an unspecified fine. He began serving the ban immediately.
"It sucked," Rendon said of his exchange with the fan at the time. "My emotions got the best of me. I'm usually pretty good about interacting with fans ... have fun with it. But the gentleman [and I], we spoke on the phone, and we both apologized about what had happened. And so we're both ready to move forward."
Rendon, 32, is in the fourth season of a seven-year, $245 million free agent deal he signed with the Angels in December 2019, when he was fresh off a World Series win with the Washington Nationals. His salary of $38.5 million this season exceeds what the Angels are paying to superstars Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani.
In 30 games this season, he has one homer and 20 runs driven in. His .301 average is an improvement over last season's .229.
Rendon has been a disappointment for the Angels, as injuries have limited him to just 187 games since the start of the 2020 season. He is batting .259 with 21 home runs and 109 RBIs in an Angels uniform.
In 2019, his sole All-Star season, Rendon hit .319 with 44 doubles, 34 homers and a major league-leading 126 RBIs.
French Open 2023 results: Britons Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury reach men's doubles third round
Britons Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury both progressed to the third round of the men's doubles at the French Open.
Top seeds Skupski and Dutch partner Wesley Koolhof claimed a 6-4 6-2 victory over Argentine Pedro Cachin and China's Wu Yibing.
Salisbury and American Rajeev Ram were on court for just 22 minutes before Spanish opponents Roberto Carballes Baena and Jaume Munar retired.
The second seeds were leading by a break of serve at 3-2 in the first set.
Skupski and Koolhof will play Kazakhstan's Aleksandr Nedovyesov and Mexican Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela for a quarter-final place.
Next up for US Open champions Salisbury and Ram is a meeting with Argentine 14th seeds Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni or American pair Marcos Giron and Mackenzie McDonald.
Also on Friday at Roland Garros, Briton Lloyd Glasspool and American Asia Muhammad compete in the mixed doubles against French wildcards Estelle Cascino and Dan Added.
Salisbury returns to action in the mixed doubles, alongside American Desirae Krawczyk, for a first-round meeting with fellow Briton Jamie Murray and American Taylor Townsend.
French Open 2023 results: Jessica Pegula beaten in straight sets by Elise Mertens
Jessica Pegula became the highest-ranked women's player to exit the 2023 French Open to date as she was emphatically beaten by Elise Mertens.
American third seed Pegula, a quarter-finalist in Paris last year, struggled in a 6-1 6-3 defeat.
Belgian 28th seed Mertens will face a Russian, either Anastasia Potapova or Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, next.
Pegula's time at Roland Garros is not over as she is through to the women's doubles second round with Coco Gauff.
The pair reached the final in 2022, and the semi-finals at the Australian Open earlier this year.
Pegula, whose preparations for the French Open were derailed by food poisoning, is the 21st seed to exit the women's singles inside six days of action.
Friday proved a much easier day for Belarusian world number two Aryna Sabalenka, however, as she comfortably defeated Russian Kamilla Rakhimova 6-2 6-2.
Sabalenka, crowned Australian Open champion in January, will take on American Sloane Stephens or Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva in the fourth round.
Ninth seed Daria Kasatkina also progressed, making light work of American Peyton Stearns in a 6-0 6-1 win.
The Russian will face compatriot Anna Blinkova or Ukraine's Elina Svitolina next.
Premier 15s: Talking points before final games of regular season
This weekend brings the final round of the Premier 15s' regular season, with all games kicking off at 14:00 BST on Saturday.
The semi-final line-up still needs to be confirmed before those play-off matches on 10 June, while more big-name moves are expected to be announced for next season.
Here are three things to look out before the season concludes with the Premier 15s final on 24 June at Kingsholm.
Home semi-final up for grabs
League leaders Gloucester-Hartpury are the only side who know they are heading into the final round with a home semi-final in the bag as they make the play-offs for the first time.
They face second-placed Exeter Chiefs Women, who they beat at Sandy Park on the opening weekend of the season, and who would love to get revenge at the Alpas Arena.
If Exeter lose, reigning champions Saracens can leapfrog the Chiefs, if they beat lowly Loughborough Lightning, to take second place and with it the other home semi-final.
As for fourth place, Bristol Bears have this all but sewn up as they travel to Wasps, who remain winless this season.
End of an era
On the subject of Wasps Women, this weekend's match will end a significant chapter in the club's history.
Without a place in what will be a revamped Premier 15s next season, they will not compete at rugby's top table for the first time in 38 years.
A big send-off with former players is planned at Twyford Avenue.
The Rugby Football Union says the women's leagues next season remain provisional, but it is expected Wasps will play in National Challenge 1 South East (North).
Darlington Mowden Park Sharks, who also play their final Premier 15s game, have provisionally applied to play in Championship 1 North next season.
Big names on the move
Ealing Trailfinders and Leicester Tigers have already caused a stir following the announcements of a host of England internationals joining them for their Premier 15s debut seasons. Abby Dow is among the players heading to Ealing, while Amy Cokayne is one of the Tigers signings.
Plenty of other big names are yet to confirm which clubs they will call home next season as the new three-year cycle begins.
In June 2022, the Rugby Football Union announced a 10-year strategy that included establishing a new operating company to run the league from 2023-24 onwards.
Premier 15s chief executive Belinda Moore will lead the league into this new era, with announcements around a new marketing strategy and governance expected soon.
Alun Wyn Jones: Wales legend has played final Ospreys game
Alun Wyn Jones has said he will not return to the Ospreys next season, ending 17 years at the Welsh region.
The world's most capped rugby player who recently announced the end of his international career has also hinted he may play against Wales in November.
And speaking to a Barbarians podcast he suggested he may play on at club level.
"Whatever's next, if something pops up, there might be something domestic, I won't be back with the Ospreys," said Jones.
"But if nothing does I can be pretty happy with my innings anyway, but we'll see what comes in the next few months."
Jones made his debut for Ospreys in 2005 having started his career a year earlier with Swansea. He won three league titles with Ospreys and was made captain in 2010.
Also captain of his country, the lock forward has played a world-record 170 international matches, with 158 games for Wales and 12 Tests for the British and Irish Lions.
In May, Jones made the shock announcement that he was retiring from international rugby just four months before the World Cup.
However, he then captained a Barbarians side to a 48-42 win at Twickenham against a World XV followed by a midweek victory over Swansea in which he played for both sides.
Speaking to to The Barbarians Show in an episode recorded prior to the World XV game, Jones added no further detail as to why he had opted not to compete at a fifth World Cup.
"As I said in my statement, there was a dialogue going along and it was the right time essentially," Jones told the podcast, before hinting he may play against Warren Gatland's side in the autumn.
"There's a game against Wales in November that the Baa-Baas have got as well, so you never know," he added.
That fixture is yet to be officially confirmed.
Ospreys face losing a clutch of their biggest names for next season, due to what head coach Toby Booth described as Welsh rugby's "catastrophic" contract issues.
Dan Lydiate has joined Dragons and Joe Hawkins and Ethan Roots moved to Exeter.
Gareth Anscombe is out of contract and Tomas Francis has been linked to clubs outside Wales.
Bradley Davies and Stephen Myler have announced their retirements.
Forward James Ratti has rejoined Ospreys after four years with Cardiff.

Stanley Cup Final tale of the tape: The 30 categories that will determine the winner
The Stanley Cup Final between the Florida Panthers and the Vegas Golden Knights is expected to be a tightly played series, without an overwhelming favorite to win it all.
That is until you really start to get granular with the matchup. Then you know exactly which team will win it all.
Here is a preposterously in-depth look at the Final in which we determine the winner through 30 separate categories: looking at the Panthers and Golden Knights on the ice, off the ice, in the stands and in the culture.
Which team will hoist the Cup? Let's break it down and then break it down some more:
On ice
Forwards
With due respect to Jack Eichel, the Panthers might have the two best forwards in the series in Matthew Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov. What they don't have is the spread of talent through four lines like Vegas has, with William Karlsson (10 goals) on its third line and the William Carrier-led fourth line clicking at a 64% clip in expected goals at 5-on-5. Advantage: Golden Knights
Defensemen
Like with Florida at forward, Vegas might have the two best defensemen in this series in Alex Pietrangelo and Shea Theodore. But they also have the best overall blue-line depth in the series too: Their third pairing of Nicolas Hague and Zach Whitecloud are giving up 1.01 goals against per 60 minutes, which leads any D-pairing in the series. Also, where did Brandon Montour's Cale Makar impression go? No points in the past eight games. Advantage: Golden Knights
Manchester United are set to be without Antony for the FA Cup final against Manchester City on Saturday with the winger struggling to recover from an ankle injury, manager Erik ten Hag said.
The Brazil forward was stretchered off during United's 4-1 win over Chelsea on May 25 with an ankle issue but there was hope he might recover in time to feature at Wembley.

However, Ten Hag told reporters on Thursday that the 23-year-old's rehabilitation has not gone as well as hoped and he is now set to miss the game against Pep Guardiola's side.
"It is unlikely," Ten Hag said. "There is still a chance but a really small chance. He didn't make progress so he still has a chance but it is unlikely he is available."
Antony's absence would be a further blow for Ten Hag, who is already without Anthony Martial after he suffered a torn hamstring during the final game of the Premier League season against Fulham. Midfielders Marcel Sabitzer and Donny van de Beek are also out, alongside defender Lisandro Martinez.
The injury list has left Ten Hag with decisions to make before naming his side for the first-ever all-Manchester FA Cup final but the Dutchman said he can still pick a team capable of beating City.
"These questions are asked so many times about the absence of players but it is about the players who are available and many times we were successful," he added "We have a good squad and from the good squad we make a good team."

Victory over City would earn the United boss a second domestic trophy in his debut season at Old Trafford. It would also stop City from winning the treble, although Ten Hag said that isn't his main motivation.
"We want to win a cup, it is not about stopping them," Ten Hag said. "I think it is a very good season when you see where we came from and the progress of the team.
"In a tough league like the Premier League and you are third and winning the League Cup and in the final of the FA Cup you can be happy with the season but in summer we start again."
