Globe Trotting Scotsman in Search of World Championships Place

Scotland’s Martin Perry is racking up the air miles in his bid to qualify for the World Para Championships to be staged in Granada, Spain, later this year in November.

On Sunday 10th July, at the Copa Tango in Buenos Aires, Argentina, partnering Great Britain colleague, Welshman Paul Karabardak, he secured bronze in men’s doubles class 14. Earlier he had reached the quarter-final stage in men’s singles class 6.

Just eight days later on Monday 18th July, he will be on duty at the Thailand Open in Pattaya.

“I don’t think I played my best in Argentina overall in singles and doubles, but it was a good warm up for Thailand and I’ve taken some notes of what I want to do next week in terms of how I want to play and how I want to approach matches. So, as much as the journey going from Buenos Aires to Pattaya is going to be a long one and it’s going to be challenging, I’m looking forward to that challenge.

I enjoy having a challenge in front of me and hopefully rising to it. As always there is something on the line and I’ll be in Thailand trying to qualify for the World Championships so there are definitely going to be some fiery matches and hopefully something positive at the end of it.” Martin Perry

Martin Perry, a class 6 player, is 28 years old, he hails from Paisley but now lives in Dumbarton.

Furthermore, he is not alone in his travels.

Also present in Buenos Aires and competing in Pattaya is Great Britain colleague Simon Heaps, a class 5 player who recently struck gold in the wheelchair class at the Stag 2022 European Veteran Championships.
