Track results including superb one-lap Euro qualifiers for Dobson (45.27) and Jodie Williams (51.35) plus fast times for David Locke and Calli Thackery over 800m and 3000m respectively

NEWHAM & ESSEX BEAGLES SUMMER SERIES, Stratford (CT), July 17

At the time the World Championships were taking place in Eugene, Charlie Dobson showed what might have been as he ran a European qualifier 45.27 (ahead of Kevin Metzger’s 46.00), a time that only two athletes bettered in the heats in Oregon.

It was his first race since April (a wind-assisted 19.99 200m) and equalled his PB, further proof that he can stay fit and healthy the 22-year-old is one of Britain’s greatest prospects over the next few years.

Jodie Williams also ran a time that would have also got her comfortably through the 400m heats in Eugene.

The Olympic finalist ran a European standard 51.35 in a mixed race, a whole 1.36 seconds quicker than she ran eight days ago in Birmingham as she also continues her return from injury.

There was a very tight first men’s 100m round as Eugene Amo-Dadzie won in 10.25/0.5 just ahead of Ojie Edoburun and Andy Robertson (both 10.26).

Adam Thomas won a different race in 10.24/-0.1.

In the second round Edoburun improved to win in 10.15/1.2 just ahead of Amo-Dadzie (10.21) and Robertson and Thomas (10.22).

In the women’s 100m Alisha Rees (11.30/1.9) narrowly got the better of Crystal Awuah and was a Scottish record. She ran a wind-assisted 11.29 in the British Championships.

Awuah also ran the 200m in 23.15/0.1.
