Arriving in Germany on Friday 19 August, ITTF President Petra Sörling will visit the European Championships Munich 2022, where 225 players from 39 member associations are vying for a continental title.

President Sörling will attend the table tennis competitions staged in the Rudi-Sedlmayer-Halle. It will provide an ideal opportunity to meet and engage with players, their entourage, officials, and all participants to hear opinions, exchange views and provide first-hand details of the current situation within the ITTF.

On Saturday 20 August, she will attend the Congress of the European Table Tennis Union.

“I would like to thank the ETTU for its invitation. This opportunity to meet with all European representatives could not come at a better time. The European Championships are going extremely well, World Table Tennis successfully delivered the European Summer Series, the ITTF closed a trying chapter with Germany bringing peace to the table tennis family, and we are accelerating their preparations for Chengdu 2022 World Team Championships Finals. Being in Munich for a few days is the perfect conclusion of a very positive summer for our sport.” — Petra Sörling, ITTF President

Another meeting is planned with Claudia Herweg, President of the German Table Tennis Association (DTTB). Following the joint declaration issued by the ITTF, World Table Tennis and DTTB formally ending the conflict over the introduction of World Table Tennis, discussions will focus on future strategic objectives, strengthening cooperation, and hosting the WTT Series events in Germany.

In 2023, the DTTB aims to host several WTT Feeder Series events tournaments and, most significantly, a WTT Champions.

Earlier this year, the first-ever WTT Champions took place in Budapest, receiving high marks from fans who enjoyed the intensity this new event format brought to the sport and recording impressive ratings according to the research published by World Table Tennis.
