Under 17 girls’ singles silver medallist earlier this year in June at the WTT Youth Contender Havirov tournament; then experiencing the same fate one day later in the under 19 age group, notably losing to colleague Chen Yi, on Tuesday 6th September it was better news for China’s Qin Yuxuan.

Staged in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, on the concluding day of play, she accounted for Chen Yi to claim junior girls’ singles gold at the Asian Junior and Cadet Championships.

Success meant a second title for the young lady who will celebrate her 16th birthday on Wednesday 14th September; earlier alongside Chen Yi, Han Feier and Zong Geman, she had been pivotal to China’s success in the junior girls’ team event.

Likewise, there were two titles for Chen Yuanyu. He joined forces with Han Xinyuan, Liang Guodong and Zeng Beixun to claim the junior boys’ team top prize, prior to concluding matters by overcoming Chinese Taipei’s Kao Cheng-Jui to be crowned junior boys’ singles champion.

Rewards for China, there was also cadet boys’ team success; the combination of Huang Xunan, Huang Youhao and Kang Youde striking gold. However, there was to be no clean sweep as has been known on more than one occasion.

Four titles finished in Japanese hands. Yuta Ilmura and Yuhi Sakai emerged the junior boys’ doubles winners, compatriots Kaho Akae and Misaki Suzuki secured junior girls’ doubles gold.

Additionally, in the cadet age group, Shunto Iwaida won the boys’ singles event after the combination of Sachi Aoki, Rin Mende and Mao Takamori had claimed the cadet girls’ doubles top prize.

Similarly, the top step of the podium was also reserved by India and Thailand; for the former, it was junior mixed doubles success in the guise ofc Payas Jain and Yashwini Ghorpade, for the latter, Phatsaraphon Wonglakhon claimed cadet girls’ singles gold.

Notably for Phatsaraphon Wonglakhon, it was her second international title of the year; in June she won the cadet girls’ singles at the South East Asia Junior Championships in Bangkok.
