Ahead of the ongoing 2022 ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals Chengdu presented by China Telecom, the International Table Tennis Federation’s Executive Committee met to discuss the key takeaways from the Chengdu local organising committee.

The committee met in a hybrid setting, with members who are present in China gathering locally, conferencing in other members via a remote link. This allowed for the entire committee to be present for the meeting.

Chengdu’s local organising committee presented for the final time after it staged a successful opening ceremony to kick off the 2022 ITTF World Team Championships Finals. The ITTF Executive Committee was happy to give the LOC a thumbs up for its preparation in helping create a closed-loop system for athletes keeping their safety at the forefront of what is expected to be thrilling competition.

“Being able to safely bring athletes to China to compete in a high-level sporting event was the main focus of the LOC. Now that the athletes are here safely, we can focus on executing the best well-run event to showcase the world’s best Table Tennis Teams. For the first time since Beijing 2022 athletes are coming from abroad to China, now we cannot wait to see what they do over the next 10 days.” – Liu Guoliang, Executive Vice President of the ITTF, and President of CTTA

Over 250 athletes were brought on specific charter flights by the ITTF to Chengdu to ensure the safe delivery of the 2022 ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships. Hearing from organisers has allowed the ITTF Executive Committee to learn important takeaways as the sporting world continues to navigate the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic while putting on world-class events.

“We want to thank the Chengdu local organising committee for going above and beyond to deliver the 2022 ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals. The closed-loop organisation is top-notch and we have heard positive words from the athletes who have arrived. Now it is time to show the world the best Table Tennis has to offer.” – Petra Sörling, ITTF President
