Toss Sri Lanka chose to bowl vs Namibia

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl first in the Men's T20 World Cup opener in Geelong, likely owing to their preference to chase scores. Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus said he would have liked to chase as well.

For Namibia, 19-year-old opener Divan la Cock comes into the side, and will be partnered at the top of the order by Michael van Lingen, with Stephan Baard set to bat at No. 3. They have a fairly settled middle order, with Erasmus set to bat there, and the experienced David Wiese likely to play the finishing role. They also bat deep - left-arm spinner Bernard Scholtz, and seamer Ben Shikongo are the only specialist bowlers.
Sri Lanka suffered a significant blow this weekend, when left-arm quick Dilshan Madushanka was likely ruled out of the tournament with a quadriceps injury. In his place in the XI, Sri Lanka have Pramod Madushan, who made his debut late in their Asia Cup campaign.

The batting holds no major surprises, though there is no room for Charith Asalanka, with Dhananjaya de Silva batting at No. 3, and Danushka Gunathilaka at No. 4.

Namibia: 1 Divan la Cock, 2 Michael van Lingen, 3 Stephan Baard, 4 Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, 5 Gerhard Erasmus (capt), 6 Jan Frylinck, 7 JJ Smit, 8 David Wiese, 9 Zane Green (wk), 10 Bernard Scholtz, 11 Ben Shikongo

Sri Lanka: 1 Pathum Nissanka, 2 Kusal Mendis (wk), 3 Dhananjaya de Silva, 4 Danushka Gunathilaka, 5 Bhanuka Rajapaksa, 6 Dasun Shanaka (capt), 7 Wanindu Hasaranga, 8 Chamika Karunaratne, 9 Dushmantha Chameera, 10 Maheesh Theekshana, 11 Pramod Madushan
