West Indies bat first in 'must-win game' against table-toppers Zimbabwe

Toss West Indies chose to bat vs Zimbabwe

West Indies won the toss and choose to bat first against Zimbabwe in Hobart, in what their captain, Nicholas Pooran, described as a "must-win game" for the team following their crushing loss to Scotland on Monday.
Johnson Charles came into the line-up as an enforced change for Brandon King, with Pooran bullish at the toss about his team's prospects of putting their setback swiftly behind them.

"We'll put runs on the board and put pressure on them," Pooran said. "The first game is out the window now. It's in the trash. The batsmen need to step up. We need to show up."

Zimbabwe, who currently top the men's T20 World Cup Group B table after a comprehensive win over Ireland in their own tournament opener, suffered a significant setback when their captain Craig Ervine suffered a mild asthmatic attack in the build-up to the match. Regis Chakabva steps up to lead the team, with Tony Munyonga the sole change to their line-up.
Intriguingly, all seven of the completed matches in this year's T20 World Cup have so far been won by the team that has lost the toss, and as a consequence, Chakabva was unfazed at the prospect of chasing a target on a pitch that proved full of runs in Ireland's impressive victory over Scotland earlier in the day.

"It looks like a good wicket," Chakabva said. "We don't mind bowling first. Craig is unfortunately not feeling too well. We wish him well."

The Ireland result has blown Group B wide open, with three teams currently on two points, and the prospect of a four-way tie if West Indies manage to secure their bounce-back victory this evening.

Even a Zimbabwe win, for two from two, won't put them out of reach of the pack, given that they face West Indies' opening-round conquerors, Scotland, in Friday's final round-robin fixture.

West Indies: 1 Kyle Mayers, 2 Johnson Charles, 3 Evin Lewis, 4 Shamarh Brooks, 5 Nicholas Pooran (capt, wk), 6 Rovman Powell, 7 Jason Holder, 8 Akeal Hosein, 9 Odean Smith, 10 Alzarri Joseph, 11 Obed McCoy

Zimbabwe: 1 Regis Chakabva (capt/wk), 2 Wessly Madhevere, 3 Sean Williams, 4 Sikandar Raza, 5 Milton Shumba, 6 Tony Munyonga, 7 Ryan Burl, 8 Luke Jongwe, 9 Tendai Chatara, 10 Richard Ngarava, 11 Blessing Muzarabani
