An exacting fifth day of action, Thursday 10th November, at the Andalucia 2022 World Para Championships concluded with further names reserving podium places in both the men’s singles and women’s singles events.

Title favourites were very much in the ascendancy.

Players to attract the greatest attention in the men’s singles were Turkey’s Nesim Turan and Thailand’s Rungrioj Thainiyom; in the women’s singles, Alexandre Saint-Pierre.

Competing in class 4, at the quarter-final stage Nesim Turan showed no compassion; he beat top seeded Turkish colleague, Abdullah Ozturk (11-3, 12-10, 11-6). Later, in the penultimate round in class 6, Thailand’s Rungroj Thainiyom ended the hopes of the leading name. He beat Denmark’s Peter Rosenmeier (11-7, 11-8, 11-7).

Meanwhile, Alexandra Saint-Pierre from France, a player who has enjoyed a most successful year continued her impressive form; at the semi-final stage of women’s singles class 5, she ended the progress of Korea Republic’s Moon Sunghye, the no.2 seed (8-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-9).

In men’s singles class 8 and class 10, in addition to women’s singles class 10, the semi-finalists have yet to be decided.
