India chose to bowl vs New Zealand
Unlike in the ODI series, India chose the more convenient option of chasing upon winning the toss in the T20I series opener in Ranchi. India's captain
Hardik Pandya spoke of the dew expected; in fact, he said, he could feel some dew at 6.30pm itself, which should even the odds a little.
India recalled left-arm wristspinner
Kuldeep Yadav into their T20I XI after an excellent comeback in ODIs and Tests, which meant legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal sat out. As suggested by Pandya on the eve of the series,
Prithvi Shaw didn't make a direct comeback into the XI: the team management went with
Shubman Gill and
Ishan Kishan as openers. Gill was the only anchor in the batting line-up.
For New Zealand,
Mark Chapman and
Ish Sodhi came into the squad that lost the ODIs 3-0. Jacob Duffy, Blair Tickner and Lockie Ferguson were their quicks.
