ITTF Executive Board Announces Updates to World Ranking Regulations

The International Table Tennis Federation Executive Board recently approved changes to the ITTF Table Tennis World Ranking Regulations, following a review by the World Ranking Working Group. The new regulations include several important updates aimed at improving the ranking system.

Some of the significant changes involves the increase in points awarded for the initial round of WTT Grand Smash events up to the Round of 64 category. These events’ qualification draws can pose a challenge for players who are ranked between #50 and #120. ITTF Executive Board believes that this increase in points for the qualifying rounds will serve as a fair recognition of the efforts made by the qualified players.

The updated regulations also include the reduction of points awarded for WTT Feeder events. The current 150 points had become a significant incentive for top players to participate in these events, which had a negative impact on lower-level players. To address this issue and to offer more opportunities for lower-level players of getting an entry, the points for winners of WTT Feeder events will be reduced from 150 to 125, and similarly for finalists, semi-finalists, and quarterfinalists.

These are some of the changes that are part of the updated World Ranking Regulations. These changes have been made to provide a more balanced and fair ranking system for all participants and to ensure the rankings are an accurate representation of the current level of players in our sport.
