In this Mets post game news conference, starter Max Scherzer talked about "just missing" on several pitches but was able escape jams with his off speed repertoire to keep the Padres at bay in the Mets 5-0 win. He credited the San Diego lineup with "grinding against me", which drove his pitch count up but he "just found a way to get out of innings and avoid a big inning." Scherzer allowed just one hit over five innings and while his preference is to always go deeper in games, he concluded, "the team got a win, anytime the team wins I'm happy."
