Toss West Indies choose to bowl vs India
West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite won the toss and asked India to bat first, in what was the 100th Test match between the sides, at Port of Spain. Brathwaite's decision went down well with India captain Rohit Sharma, who said he wanted to bat first anyway in their bid to sweep the series 2-0.
West Indies handed a debut to Jamaican batter
Kirk McKenzie, who had recently scored a double-century in the first-ever Headley Weekes tri-series
in April earlier this year. The 22-year-old was then part of the West Indies A side that had toured Bangladesh in May. Brathwaite confirmed McKenzie would slot in at No.3 in place of allrounder Raymon Reifer. West Indies beefed up their pace attack by bringing in
Shannon Gabriel in place of offspin-bowling allrounder Rahkeem Cornwall, who was not passed fit for this Test.
India also had to make a forced change, with Bengal seamer
Mukesh Kumar making his first international appearance in place of Shardul Thakur, who was out with a groin niggle. Mukesh, 29, has been a force in domestic cricket, having picked up 149 wickets in 39 first-class matches at an average of 21.55.
