Jets activate RB Hall one day after adding Cook

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Less than 24 hours after agreeing to terms with free agent running back Dalvin Cook, the New York Jets welcomed back 2022 leading rusher Breece Hall.

Hall, who suffered an ACL injury last season in Week 7, was activated Tuesday from the physically unable to perform list and was scheduled to make his 2023 debut on the practice field.

The Jets had been pointing to this week for Hall's return to practice, as coach Robert Saleh noted recently. Hall likely will be limited in practice as they ramp up toward the regular season. The current plan is to bring him along slowly, leaning on Cook as the primary ball carrier early in the season, a source said.

Hall has been running full speed for several weeks, hitting 23 mph on the GPS, according to Saleh.

A 2022 second-round pick, Hall was a dynamic playmaker as a rookie, rushing for 463 yards (5.8 per carry) and four touchdowns in seven games. He also had 19 receptions for 218 yards and a touchdown. The Jets were 5-2 in games with Hall, 2-8 without him.

"He looks strong, he's in really good shape," said Saleh, speaking at the start of camp. "Obviously, we're going to do good by him and make sure that we slow play it, but he's in really good shape."

Cook, 28, who will sign a one-year contract with a $7 million base value and $1.6 million in incentives, according to sources, won't be able to practice for at least a week because of a surgically repaired shoulder. He underwent surgery in February while still a member of the Minnesota Vikings. His arrival in New Jersey will be delayed, as he's due to become a first-time father.

The Jets have a crowded backfield. Backing up Hall and Cook are Michael Carter, Zonovan Knight and rookie Israel Abanikanda.
