The ITTF Group has taken a crucial step towards shaping a more inclusive and sustainable future for table tennis with the unveiling of its Sustainability (Planet) Action Plan 2025 and Gender Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (GEDI) Action Plan 2025. These comprehensive plans underscore the ITTF Groups unwavering commitment to people, planet, and prosperity.

Planet Action Plan 2025: Championing a Greener Future

In 2022, the ITTF Group proudly became a signatory of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Sport for Climate Action Framework. This commitment is supported by striving goals, including a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieving Net Zero GHG emissions by 2040 a resolute stride towards the Paris Agreements aim of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels.

The Planet Action Plan 2025 outlines a strategic roadmap across four priority areas:

  • Leading by Example as a 3-Entity Organisation:
  • Priority 1: Governance, culture and identity.
  • Priority 2: Tackling direct impacts through measurement, reporting, and solutions.
  • Empowering Change as a Major Event Contractor, Organizer, and Equipment Accreditor:
  • Priority 3: Addressing indirect impacts through measurement, reporting, and setting new standards
  • Embracing Collective Responsibility as an International Federation:
  • Priority 4: Education and community engagement

The Planet Action Plan 2025 outlines key goals, including:

  • Taking the necessary steps to lead by example as an organisation measuring our footprint, establishing a strong foundation for sustainability along with education and clear processes.
  • Guiding Member Associations and stakeholders towards new sustainability standards, events, equipment, partners.
  • Building a sustainable culture by ensuring simple sustainable actions and decision-making are accessible to all, staff, Member Associations, fans, athletes, officials etc.

GEDI Action Plan 2025: Forging a Diverse and Inclusive Tomorrow

Recognising the importance to bridge gender equality, diversity, and inclusion gaps across the organisation and the sport, the ITTF Group introduces the GEDI Action Plan 2025.

The Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) Plan focuses on achieving gender equality, protection, and empowerment of all. It covers all aspects of our sport, such as administration, coaching, refereeing, and player development. As a federation for the people, ITTF Group is focused on showcasing the value and potential of a diverse and equal society for all, for life.

The GEDI Action Plan 2025 mirrors the UN Guidelines for Gender-Responsive Sports Organisations and upholds six core principles:

  • Undertake efforts to promote womens leadership and gender equality in governance models.
  • Undertake efforts to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls in and through sports.
  • Undertake to close the gap in investment in womens sport and promote equal economic opportunities for women and girls.
  • Undertake efforts to promote womens equal participation and bias-free representation in sports media, including communications to eliminate harmful gender stereotypes and to promote positive role models.
  • Undertake efforts to support equal opportunities for girls in sports, physical activity, and physical education.
  • Agree to monitor and publicly report on progress on an annual basis.

Some of the key goals embedded within the GEDI Action Plan 2025 are:

  • Ensuring comprehensive safeguarding measures for all athletes, especially those who face harm due to their sexual orientation, gender expression or identity.
  • Increasing womens presence in leadership, decision-making roles, and increasing girls participation in table tennis programmes and projects.
  • Amplifying visibility of female role models and promote female endeavours.
  • Fostering transparency and accountability via stringent monitoring and evaluation
