Pakistan bring in Usama Mir named as concussion sub for Shadab Khan
Written by I Dig SportsThe replacement was needed after Shadab injured himself while fielding the second legal delivery of South Africa's chase. He ran in quickly from mid-on to intercept a shot from Temba Bavuma and threw down the stumps at the bowler's end. But Shadab lost balance as he did so and fell awkwardly, appearing to hit his head on the ground.
After spending several minutes lying on the ground and getting looked at by medical staff, a stretcher was brought on to take Shadab off the field, although he was able to walk off himself.
He returned to the field a while later, but had not yet bowled by the time he was deemed unable to continue playing and was replaced by Mir during the 15th over of South Africa's chase. As per the rules for concussion subs, Mir will be eligible to bowl a full quota of ten overs.
Earlier in the game, Shadab had scored 46 off 36 balls to help Pakistan recover from a middle-order wobble and score 270. Mir had been dropped for this match after conceding 1 for 82 and 0 for 55 in Pakistan's defeats to Australia and Afghanistan. But against South Africa, Mir made an immediate impact, dismissing Rassie van der Dussen lbw in his first over.
