No. 11 Zags fall to No. 2 Purdue 73-63, return to action Tuesday morning
Written by Sports NewsThe Gonzaga Bulldogs lost to the Purdue Boilermakers 73-63 Monday afternoon in the opening round of the Maui Invitational.
The Zags got down to a quick 6-0 hole to start the game, but Graham Ike helped the Bulldogs go on a 12-0 run to give themselves an early lead.
The Boilermakers didn't go away, getting out to a hot start in the second half to cut the Zags' lead to just one.
Purdue eventually went on a 6-0 run of their own to take the lead halfway through the second half. From there, it was all Purdue.
Gonzaga shot 6 of 32 from behind the three-point arc, and it was the efficient shooting from the field and free throw line from Purdue that helped lead them to victory.
Defending National Player of the Year Zach Edey finished the game with 25 points and 14 rebounds.
Ike led all Zags scorers with 14 points, adding six rebounds to his stat line. Ryan Nembhard was GU's next highest scorer with 11 points.
The Zags will now face Syracuse at 11:30 a.m. PST on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
