Harvey Biljon: Ex-Jersey Reds boss waiting on 'right opportunity' to return

Former Jersey Reds director of rugby Harvey Biljon says he is waiting for the right opportunity to return to a full-time role in rugby union.

He has been working in a consultancy role at fourth-tier Rotherham Titans since Jersey's collapse.

"For me it's a 'watch this space'," Biljon told BBC Radio Jersey.

"I'm waiting for that right opportunity to present itself and when it does hopefully I can really get my teeth into it and bring the same success we did to Jersey Reds.

"I know we'll plan, we'll put a strategy in place and I'm not scared of hard work so I know if I can replicate that, it'll go well."

Most of Jersey's squad have now found new clubs, with many signing for sides in the Premiership and United Rugby Championship.

Biljon says that comes as no surprise to him given the squad he had assembled - which beat top-flight side Bath at The Rec in their final away game in the Premiership Rugby Cup in September.

"I think all the players I brought to Jersey Reds were capable of playing at the top level, it's just unfortunate they've not had the opportunity to do it with Jersey Reds," he said.

But I want them to all do very well, whether that be on the rugby pitch or off the field.

"They're guys I cared about and individuals that I know, because of their attitude and effort and the characters they are, no matter what they go into in their careers they'll be a success.

"They will look back and this will be a hurdle that they've had to overcome, but they'll be better for it."

Biljon accepted the Outstanding Achievement award at the Jersey Sport Awards on behalf of the Jersey Reds in honour of their title victory in May.

It was the first time the club had ever won the second-tier title, and Biljon's side missed out on a double when they lost to Ealing in the Championship Cup final the following week.

"To be recognised for taking a team that was on the brink of relegation to a team that should have been in the Premiership, and how proud Jersey Reds has made the island over those years, it was moving, and the emotion definitely came back," he said.

"It was great to hear that applause and people getting behind us.

"I know Jersey Reds are no longer, but to know that we'll be remembered is brilliant."
