The past week fans in Chengdu have been treated to an exhilarating spectacle of talent and determination with China emerging victorious, swiftly defeating Korea Republic 8-1 and have forever etched their name in history as the first ever champions of the ITTF Mixed Team World Cup.

Top seed of the tournament, China displayed an incredible level of skill and teamwork showcased throughout this innovative new event, finishing the week with 56 games won and only 10 games lost. In tonights gold medal match, the team proved too strong for Korea Republic and claimed victory 8-1.

World No.1 mixed doubles pair of Sun Yingsha and Wang Chuqin opened the match for China, easily dismantling their Korean counterparts Shin Yubin and An Jaehyun and setting China up with a three game headstart.

Wang Manyu extended the lead, claiming another three games in the womens singles against Kim Naeyong with World No.1 Fan Zhendong then defeating Lee Sang Su 2-1 and securing the win for China on home soil.

This result will see China as the first team to lift the Guoliang-Sörling Trophy as the winners of this groundbreaking event and continue to showcase its dominance in world Table Tennis.

Defeated at the final hurdle, Korea Republic will leave Chengdu with silver, a worthy achievement for the team who have displayed extraordinary levels of technical skill and collaboration this week. Meanwhile, Japan has claimed the bronze medal.
