Gloucester-Hartpury stay unbeaten with Harlequins win
Written by I Dig SportsGloucester-Hartpury survived a spirited Harlequins comeback to win 31-19 in the Allianz Women's Premiership at Twickenham.
Gloucester scored four tries inside the first 32 minutes to take a 26-0 lead.
But Harlequins fought back to make it 26-19, only for Rachel Lund's last-minute try to end their hopes and secure the visitors' bonus-point win.
Gloucester remain unbeaten with four wins from four, having played a game fewer than leaders Saracens.
Harlequins are eighth in the table with just one win from five games so far.
Hannah Jones opened the scoring for Gloucester before tries from Mia Venner, Sam Monaghan and Sisilia Tuipulotu extended their half-time lead, with Emma Sing converting three.
Hannah Sims opened Harlequins' account with a try shortly before half-time before Emily Scott and Babalwa Latsha's efforts early in the second half kept the hosts in contention.
Gloucester had a try disallowed for a forward pass in the 60th minute to keep Harlequins' hopes alive but Lund burst through their defence to score in the corner and maintain their winning run in style.
"Everything was ticking today," Gloucester-Hartpury head coach Sean Lynn told TNT Sports after the victory.
"Everything we have worked on in training came together.
"But credit to Harlequins, we just couldn't get a foothold in that second half."
Both teams are next in action on Saturday 6 January, with Gloucester-Hartpury taking on Loughborough Lightning and Harlequins facing winless Leicester Tigers.
