Feyi-Waboso to miss England training camp for exam

England wing Immanuel Feyi-Waboso will miss the three-day training camp in York this week because of a medical exam at Exeter University.

Feyi-Waboso, 21, scored a try against Scotland in one of the bright moments of a deflating Calcutta Cup loss.

Half-backs Alex Mitchell and Marcus Smith have joined up with the squad as they step up their recovery from injuries.

Flanker Tom Pearson is included in the 36-man group, with Ben Curry injured.

Pearson, 24, impressed with a try and an all-round performance for the 'A' team against Portugal last Sunday.

England face Grand Slam-chasing Ireland at Twickenham on 9 March, with a markedly improved performance required against a side that have only lost once in their past 21 matches.

"We are going to do everything we can to develop," Borthwick told BBC Radio 5 Live after the Murrayfield defeat.

"I want to make sure we are using every minute we have between now and then to step forward."

Borthwick has much to ponder after a fourth straight loss to the Scots, which leaves England needing to win their remaining two matches to have any chance of competing for the Six Nations title.

Smith's return will offer another playmaking option, while Mitchell is also thought to be making a quicker than expected recovery from a knee injury, although neither is ready to resume full training at this stage.

Feyi-Waboso is pushing for a first international start after his try-scoring cameo against Scotland, but he will be absent from training all week as his medical exam is required to take place face-to-face.
