Benson Kipruto won in 2:02:16 as Eliud Kipchoge could only finish 10th. It was a course record, world lead, Japanese all-comers record and moves Kipruto to fifth on the world all-time list.

Sutume Asefa won the womens race in 2:15:55 which is a Japanese all-comers record and world lead and moves to eighth on the world all-time list.

Sifan Hassan suffered the first loss of her career in fourth in 2:18:05 as Betsy Saina, who failed to finish at the US Olympic Marathon Trials, was fifth in a PB 2:19:17.

Exciting prospect Claudia Hollingsworth continued her improvement with an Olympic qualifying performance and third consecutive Australian and area under-20 record of 1:58.81 with Bendere Oboya also clocking the Olympic standard with 1:59.01.

The 18-year-old started the season with a 2:01.60 best set in 2021 when she was just 15 years old.

Jun Zhang won the 20km race walk in a 1:17:26 PB with the same time given to Olympic champion Massimo Stano who  set an Italian record.

Brazils Caio Bonfim was third in a Brazilian record 1:17:44.
