The 13th African Games, held in Accra, Ghana from March 4 to 10 at the Accra International Conference Centre, witnessed outstanding performances from table tennis players across the continent. Egypt emerged as the most successful team of the event, showcasing their dominance throughout the tournament.

From the outset, Egyptian players demonstrated their determination to maintain their status as the dominant force in African table tennis. Omar Assar and Hana Goda set the tone by clinching the singles titles, triumphing over formidable opponents from Nigeria in thrilling encounters.  Hana Godas victory was particularly remarkable as she became the youngest player at just 16 years old to achieve the remarkable feat of claiming three major continental titles in a row, completing the continental title hattrick.

In the team events, Egypt continued their winning streak by securing the mens and womens titles with convincing 3-0 victories over Nigeria in the finals. The Egyptian mixed doubles pair of Youssef Abdelaziz and Mariam Alhodaby also emerged victorious, adding another gold medal to Egypts tally. The Alhodaby twins, Mariam and Marwa, further bolstered Egypts medal haul by clinching the womens doubles title, showcasing their exceptional teamwork and skill on the court.

However, Algeria managed to halt Egypts winning streak in the mens doubles final, claiming the gold medal in a closely contested match. Despite this setback, Egypts dominance was evident as they claimed six gold medals overall, underscoring their status as the most successful team of this years event. With Algeria securing one gold medal and Nigeria taking home three silver medals, the podium reflected the competitive spirit and talent of African table tennis players.

This years African Games set a record with entries from 29 countries, highlighting the growing popularity and competitiveness of table tennis in Africa. The tournament provided an excellent platform for players to showcase their talent and compete at the highest level.
