Orioles sign IF/OF Kemp to major league contract
Written by I Dig SportsThe Baltimore Orioles signed veteran infielder/outfielder Tony Kemp to a major league contract, the team announced on Tuesday.
Kemp, 32, opted out of his minor league deal with the Cincinnati Reds last week after spending most of spring training with them. The 8-year veteran joins his fourth career team after spending the last four seasons with the Oakland Athletics. He's a career .238 hitter with a .325 on-base percentage.
Kemp has played both second base and left field for the majority of his career. Overall, he's appeared in 353 games in the outfield to 333 at second.
To make room on the 40-man roster for Kemp, infielder/outfielder Nick Maton was designated for assignment.
