Barry, Fredette headline United States 3x3 team
Written by I Dig SportsUSA Basketball announced its four-member men's 3x3 national team for the Paris Olympics on Tuesday.
Canyon Barry, former NBA player Jimmer Fredette, Kareem Maddox and Dylan Travis will return after winning the silver medal at the 2023 World Cup for Team USA.
Barry, the son of NBA Hall of Famer Rick Barry, played four years in the NBA G League and overseas and is a 3x3 specialist.
Fredette played parts of six seasons in the NBA with five teams and multiple years overseas and is known for his shooting prowess.
Maddox, a forward in 5-on-5 basketball who played at Princeton and for several years overseas, has won five gold medals in international competition with Team USA dating to 2019.
Travis, who won an NCAA Division II national title in college at Florida Southern, has won numerous medals with Team USA over the past four years.
"Representing your country at the Olympics is the ultimate honor," Team USA coach Joe Lewandowski said. "I am so happy for these guys after all the hard work and dedication they have put into 3x3 basketball. USA Basketball has the highest of standards and now the hard work begins to reach our gold-medal dream."
Unlike the standard 5-on-5 game, the 3-on-3 version is played in the half court with a 10-minute game clock and 12-second shot clock. Teams "clear" the ball behind a 2-point line after baskets, rebounds or steals. The first team to score 21 points, or whoever is leading when time expires, wins.
