White Sox OF Jimenez (adductor) on 10-day IL
Written by I Dig SportsThe Chicago White Sox placed outfielder/designated hitter Eloy Jimenez on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a left adductor strain.
The move is retroactive to April 2.
Jimenez, 27, left Sunday's game against the Detroit Tigers following an at-bat in the sixth inning. He has missed the past three games.
A .273 career hitter in 439 games with the White Sox, Jimenez is off to a slow start, hitting .182 (2-for-11) with just two singles.
Jimenez has faced a variety of injuries in his career and hasn't played more than 120 games since his rookie season in 2019.
In corresponding moves, the White Sox called up outfielder Robbie Grossman from Triple-A Charlotte. Grossman, 34, signed a minor league contract with the White Sox in March and had two homers and five RBIs in three games with Charlotte.
He spent the 2023 season with the Texas Rangers and appeared in 115 games, hitting .238 with 10 home runs and 49 RBIs. A career .244 hitter, he also has played with the Houston Astros (2013-15), Minnesota Twins (2016-18), Oakland Athletics (2019-20), Detroit Tigers (2021-22) and Atlanta Braves (2022).
The White Sox also designated right-handed pitcher Alex Speas for assignment to keep the 40-man roster at the limit.
Speas, 26, was claimed off waivers from the Rangers last October. He has thrown 2 1/3 scoreless innings with Charlotte this season.
