Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma was attacked with pepper spray by two assailants in the early hours of Sunday, the player's lawyer said, confirming media reports.

The 27-year-old was with his partner outside a luxury hotel in Cannes when the incident occurred at around 4 a.m. The hooded attackers stole his watch worth 300,000 ($326,250) and fled.

Contacted by Reuters, Bissouma's lawyer Bastien Caire declined to comment further while the investigation is ongoing.

Bissouma joined Spurs from Brighton in 2022 in a 25 million deal, signing a four-year contract with the north London club.

He made 28 appearances in the Premier League this season but missed Spurs' last two games due to a knee injury.

Spurs finished fifth in head coach Ange Postecoglou's first season in charge.

The Mali international represented his country at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, where they were knocked out by eventual tournament winners, Ivory Coast, in the round of 16.
