Kane: Bayern failure fuels England trophy hunt

Harry Kane has said the failure to end his wait for a trophy at Bayern Munich is driving him on to lead England to Euro 2024 glory.

The Three Lions begin their Group C campaign against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday with Kane set to start as Gareth Southgate's side attempt to win the country's first silverware in the men's game since 1966.

That trophy drought has been mirrored for Kane at club level despite becoming Tottenham's all-time record goalscorer prior to his 120 million move to Bayern last summer.

Kane excelled in his debut season with Bayern, scoring 44 goals in 45 games across all competitions -- the most from any player in their first Bundesliga campaign.

However, Bayern missed out on the title to Bayer Leverkusen for the first time in 12 years and so the 30-year-old is still without a major honour to his name.

"It would mean a lot [to win the Euros]," Kane said at a news conference Saturday. "I love playing for my country, I love love playing for England. It means the world to me every time I step out on the pitch wearing a shirt.

"I think winning a major tournament with England would be one of the pinnacles of anyone's career so that is the aim.

"For me personally, the trophies haven't quite happened yet but it just makes me more determined and more hungry to go out there and do that.

"That starts this summer. We have a good opportunity, a lot of hard work in front of us but that opportunity is there and I'm looking forward to trying to make it happen."
