Sayed Amir Hossein Pour Joins Largest Paralympic Refugee Team
Written by I Dig SportsITTF is thrilled and proud to acknowledge the announcement by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) of the largest-ever Refugee Paralympic Team for the upcoming Paris 2024 Games. Among the inspiring athletes competing under the refugee team is Sayed Amir Hossein Pour, a para table tennis player with a remarkable story of resilience and determination.
Sayed Amir Hossein Pours journey to Paris has been one of immense challenges and unwavering spirit. Leaving his home country of Iran two years ago, he faced the hardships of displacement and separation from his family. Living in refugee camps added another layer of difficulty to his path.
Despite these obstacles, Sayeds passion for table tennis, ignited in his school days, burned brightly. Witnessing other athletes with disabilities at a sports centre fuelled his dream of competing at the highest level.
Perseverance was the most important thing I learned, says Sayed, reflecting on his journey. He embodies the Paralympic spirit, facing not one but two opponents: the competitor across the table and the personal challenges he overcomes daily.
His dedication paid off in spectacular fashion with two gold medals at the 2021 Asian Youth Para Games in Bahrain. This achievement not only brought him recognition in Iran but also marked a turning point in his life. It solidified his dream and solidified his position as one of the most successful athletes at the Games.
Now, Sayed is ready to take centre stage in Paris. Representing the Refugee Paralympic Team signifies a safe haven for him to excel. He sees it as a free and safe flag that strives for its athletes to excel in every moment.
Sayeds story is a testament to the human spirits ability to overcome adversity. His message is a powerful one: Giving up is the worst thing for any human being. Hopefully people will see, through me, that there are always opportunities no matter what you are going through.
For Sayed, table tennis isnt just a sport; its an essential part of who he is. Sport is like breathing to me, he says. I dont feel alive without sport.
The ITTF joins the world in celebrating Sayed Amir Hossein Pours inclusion in the Refugee Paralympic Team. We are honoured to witness his talent and wish him the very best for the upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Follow Sayeds journey and cheer him on as he strives for Paralympic glory!
