Chengdu Welcomes The World to ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2024
Written by I Dig SportsThe time has arrived for Chengdu to set the stage for a historic week of world class table tennis action, with ITTF Mixed Team World Cup Chengdu 2024 presented by CHINA TELECOM taking over Sichuan Gymnasium from 1-8 December.
Kicking off the weeks proceedings in celebratory fashion, dignitaries and spectators alike were treated to a spectacular opening ceremony, featuring local dance and musical performances encapsulating the essence of all that Chengdu has to offer.
Chengdu welcomed the world with open arms as flags of all 16 teams participating in the event entered the arena, before Sun Yingsha and Kristian Karlsson took the athlete oath to get the ITTF Mixed Team World Cup underway.
Everything You Need To Know
Following the resounding success of the inaugural edition last year, Chengdu once again provides the backdrop for the ITTF Mixed Team World Cup, promising to captivate players and fans alike with its unique format and celebration of gender equality and teamwork.
Split into four groups of four teams in Stage 1, the top two teams from each group will be entered into a single eight-team group in Stage 2. With the conclusion of this stage, the top four teams from Stage 2 will then progress to a newly introduced Stage 3 knockout phase to determine the fate of the Guoliang-Sörling Trophy.
Featuring an innovative scoring system designed especially for the tournament, each individual match is contested over three games, with team matches being decided in a first to eight games format.
The order of play is as follows:
- Mixed Doubles
- Womens Singles (player not playing mixed doubles)
- Mens Singles (player not playing mixed doubles)
- Womens Doubles vs Womens Doubles/Mens Doubles vs Mens Doubles*
- Mens Doubles vs Mens Doubles/Womens Doubles vs Womens Doubles*
With the opening ceremony in the books, its time for the worlds best teams to face off in heated battle with ITTF Mixed Team World Cup Chengdu 2024 officially commencing.
