Real Madrid's Lucas Vazquez could miss El Clasico after a freak gym accident saw him drop a weight on his foot.

The winger was doing extra gym work on Wednesday when the incident happened, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.

- When does the transfer window reopen?

The club say medical tests have confirmed Vazquez has a broken bone in the big toe of his left foot.

The recovery time is still being assessed, but sources told ESPN FC that Vazquez will be absent for between a month and six weeks.

That will see the 28-year-old unavailable for a series of games both domestic and European in one of the busiest periods in the calendar.

Real Madrid play Real Sociedad on Saturday in La Liga before hosting Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Those games are followed by matches with Alaves, Espanyol, Club Brugge and Valencia before the re-arranged Clasico with Barcelona on Dec. 18.

Real Madrid have suffered a string of injuries this season, with Gareth Bale only just returning to fitness having been out since October.

James Rodriguez is another recent victim, picking up a knee ligament injury on duty with Colombia during this international break.
