VADO, N.M. – Anton Hernandez swept the 360 non-winged sprint car portion of the Turkey Bowl on Saturday at Vado Speedway Park and he did so in dramatic fashion.
One day after surviving a broken left-front axle to win at the New Mexico dirt track, Hernandez found himself chasing down World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series Director Casey Shuman in the waining laps.
Entering turn three on the penultimate lap Shuman bobbled, opening the door for Hernandez to dive under him coming out of turn four as the pair raced towards the white flag.
The blew past the flag stand side-by-side, with Hernandez clearing Shuman to take the lead as the entered turn one. Shuman tried to cross back under Hernandez coming out of turn two, but he hit a rut and lost his momentum.
That left Hernandez all alone at the front of the field and he pulled away to his second victory in as many days.
Shuman settled for second, followed by Kevin Thomas Jr., Gary Floyd and Don Grable.
Johnny Herrera also completed a sweep of the weekend, taking both features in the companion Lucas Oil POWRi 305 Winged Sprint Car division.
The finish:
Anton Hernandez, Casey Shuman, Kevin Thomas Jr., Gary Floyd, Don Grable, Robert Herrera, Shon Deskins, Joshua Hodges, Asa Kesterson, Greg Little, David Dykes, R.J. Johnson, Spencer Hill, Michael Fanelli, Charles Davis Jr., Kyle McCutcheon, Rick Ziehl, Travis Oldfield, Colt Treharn, Zac Taylor.
