Jamie Benn suspected something was amiss when the Stars’ captain arrived at American Airlines Center on Tuesday morning. It’s not often Benn sees Stars general manager Jim Nill and the organization’s front office management before morning stake at 8:30 a.m. Benn’s confusion was confirmed -- and then compounded -- soon after, when Nill called a team meeting to inform players he had fired coach Jim Montgomery due to “unprofessional conduct,” according to a team statement. The general manager said in an 11 a.m. press conference that there was no criminal investigation or current or past players involved, but Nill revealed few other details.
