Police have said a man will face no further action after being arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following the death of Emiliano Sala.

Sala, 28, was killed in a plane crash in January 2019 after signing for Cardiff City from Ligue 1 side Nantes.

A man was arrested in June 2019 by Dorset Police on suspicion of manslaughter by an unlawful act but will face no further action.

Detective Inspector Simon Huxter said: "We have carried out a detailed examination into the circumstances of Mr Sala's death, this has been a complex investigation involving the examination of a large amount of evidence and in liaison with a range of organisations.

"An investigation into the operation of the flight continues and this is being led by the CAA and therefore it would be inappropriate for us to make any further comment at this time."

Sala signed for Cardiff for £15 million but never played for the club. A plane carrying the Argentina striker and pilot David Ibbotson, 59, lost contact with air traffic control north of Guernsey on Jan. 21 2019, with Sala's body later recovered in February. Pilot Ibbotson's body has not been found.

A hearing at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is set for the spring regarding Cardiff's dispute with Nantes over Sala's transfer fee.

Cardiff do not believe they are liable but FIFA have ruled the Championship club must pay the first instalment of £6m.

A statement from CAS statement said: "An appeal arbitration procedure has been opened. A hearing is likely to be fixed in spring 2020. A final award is not expected before June 2020."
