The Minnesota Vikings are sticking with quarterback Kirk Cousins, agreeing on a two-year contract extension, according to his agent, Mike McCartney.
The value of the deal is $66 million, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Cousins, 31, was heading into the final year of the three-year, fully guaranteed $84 million contract he received from the Vikings in March 2018.
Counting next year's salary from the old deal, Cousins has a $96 million deal with $61 million guaranteed at signing, sources told ESPN. He gets $35 million guaranteed for injury, but the deal converts to fully guaranteed beginning at the start of the 2021 season. Since it's unlikely that the team would cut Cousins after one season and still owe him $61 million, the deal is effectively fully guaranteed.
After signing his big deal with the Vikings, Cousins went under the microscope, and there was criticism of his play in big games. But Cousins silenced some of the critics last season. He had 26 touchdown passes and only six interceptions in the regular season, with a career-high 107.4 passer rating.
He then led the Vikings to an upset of the Saints in the wild-card round before Minnesota fell to San Francisco in the divisional round.
