SAN JOSE, Calif. – The United States has seen shortages in hospital supplies, testing kits and ventilators due to the coronavirus outbreak.

NHRA drag racing team Scrappers Racing, along with its partner True Disruption, have started collecting donations to send to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Foundation to aid in research and relief. Donations in any amount are accepted and donations over $30 will receive a Scrappers Racing t-shirt. All proceeds will be donated to the CDC.

Over the course of the last two weeks, the world has seen business closures, lock downs and cancellations or postponement of public events – including the NHRA Mello Yellow Drag Racing Series.

Scrappers Racing and the Salinas family are eager to get back to racing but not before it is safe for the fans, racers, and NHRA staff.

Jianna Salinas mentioned in a Facebook Live event over the weekend, “Hopefully everything clears up by June so we can get back on track.”

The NHRA has posted a revised schedule and the series is tentatively planning to resume June 5-7 in Gainesville, Fla.

“As a husband to a nurse who decided to cross train in the ICU when offered to stay at home knowing she was going to be at even higher risk of COVID exposure, I want to do everything I can to support her and other heroes on the front lines,” said A.J. Lewis, President of True Disruption. “Our special relationship with Team Scrappers, NHRA fans, and the manufacturing industrial base allow us an opportunity to raise funds for the CDC who fighting forward towards a reliable and effective vaccine.”

This campaign is seeking to raise more than $10,000 during the next 30 days. Race fans can visit truedisruption.com to donate.
