With most of the motorsports world on hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic, we’ve decided to highlight some of the sport’s legends on a daily basis. We begin each story within the pages of National Speed Sport News.

Second-generation sprint car racer Stevie Smith was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame during the summer of 2019.

Smith, 54, retired at the end of the 2016 season but remains active in the sport, operating his business, Smith Titanium.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Pennsylvania racing legend Steve Smith, he started racing sprint cars as a teenager and went onto amass 222 victories during a 31-year career behind the wheel.

Smith won his first World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series race in 1988 at Lincoln Speedway where he won the track championship in 1986.

After finding success in his native state, Smith went on the road and raced full time with the World of Outlaws in 1990 and won 84 WoO features during his career. His best championship finish was second in 1992. His best season was 1998 when he won a series-best 13 races.

Smith also won 19 Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions features and the 2012 Ohio Speedweek title.

Smith won the National Open at Pennsylvania’s Williams Grove Speedway three times and also won the Gold Cup Race of Champions at California’s Silver Dollar Speedway and the Brad Doty Classic.

He also won five races en route to the Pennsylvania Speedweek title in 2015.
