The Patriots and Buccaneers are discussing a trade involving Rob Gronkowski, a deal that would reunite the retired tight end with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and multiple reports.
Gronkowski, who turns 31 next month, has one year and $10 million left on his contract with the Patriots, and the teams have talked a trade ahead of Thursday's NFL draft, sources told Schefter.
Gronkowski, arguably the best tight end in NFL history, announced his retirement in March 2019 after a nine-year career during which he won three Super Bowl rings and was one of the league's most colorful personalities.
Despite his retirement, Gronkowski repeatedly has said that he would not rule out a return to football and has indicated that he would prefer to play with Brady, who signed with the Buccaneers last month after spending his entire career with the Patriots.
Like Brady, Gronkowski also hasn't played for any team besides the Patriots.
Gronkowski had 10 or more touchdown receptions in five seasons, which is the most by a tight end in NFL history. He played in 16 playoff games, with 81 receptions for 1,163 yards and 12 touchdowns -- all records for a tight end.
