With most of the motorsports world on hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic, we’ve decided to highlight some of the sport’s legends on a daily basis. We begin each story within the pages of National Speed Sport News.

The NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series came along at the perfect time for Ron Hornaday Jr.

A veteran of the NASCAR Winston West Tour, when the Truck Series debuted in 1995, Hornaday was one of the first competitors to jump on board and it landed him a spot in the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Driving for Dale Earnhardt Inc., Hornaday won his first Truck Series race at Tucson (Ariz.) Raceway in 1995. It was the first of six victories that season

Hornaday won his first Truck Series title the following season, and followed it up with championships in 1999, ’07 and ’09. The latter two titles came while driving for Kevin Harvick Inc.

The California driver, whose father Ron Hornaday Sr. was a two-time Winston West champion, earned 51 Truck Series victories in 360 starts and was enshrined into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2018.

Hornaday also won four NASCAR Xfinity Series races in 184 starts and ran 46 races in the NASCAR Cup Series.

He also won six NASCAR K&N West Series races and an ARCA Menards Series event. Hornaday also has 18 NASCAR Southwest Tour late model wins to his credit.
