Sprint Cars Returning At Meridian On May 16

MERIDIAN, Idaho – Meridian Speedway officials have announced today that entries are being accepted for the May 16 Speed Tour Regional Sprint Car Series event at the track.

The pay-per-view only event will be the first of its kind for a pavement sprint car event. The second-year winged sprint car series will headline two complete racing programs during the day for this historic event.

The production will be run in two segments with a full show in each segment. The first will begin at 1 p.m. and be capped off with a $1,000 to win feature event. Anyone not running the second segment will then be required to exit the pits and competitors for the second segment will then be allowed to enter the pit area.

The second segment will begin promptly at 6 p.m. The entry process for this unique event will be cut off after 18 cars.

Each segment will include support classes. The first segment will include Project Filter Pro-4’s, Super Stocks, and Big Daddy’s Hornets. The second segment will include the Teleperformance Street Stocks and the Pepsi/ISRL crate non-winged sprint cars.

The second segment will play host to a unique doubleheader of sprint car racing, comprised of both winged and non-winged activity.

The state of Idaho will be into the second phase of the opening of businesses and Meridian Speedway will have to adhere to strict social distancing measures and restrictions that will include no spectators outlined by the state.

Only a limited number of crew members and track officials will be allowed entry into these events.

Fans will have the opportunity to view these events through the track’s newly-formed streaming service. More information is available here.

A handful of pavement sprint car tracks and series have been contemplating hosting such an event with no fans in attendance. Meridian Speedway promoter Adam Nelson is now the first such promoter to try a production of this nature.

With many unknowns surrounding the current COVID-19 pandemic, this could be the only option for live pavement sprint car racing in the immediate future.

As of April 29, nine drivers had already entered both segments of the Speed Tour portion of the event.

Aaron McPeak, Rob Grice, Matt Elliott, Rob Taylor, Cory Lockwood, Casey Tillman, Mike Anderson, Bryan Warf and defending Speed Tour champion Colton Nelson are the first drivers to officially enter.
