Gao Ning fights back in epic battle (Zagreb 2007)

We’ve just witnessed a roller coaster ride of a match here in Zagreb with Gao Ning recovering to claim a most incredible result!

Trailing Japan’s Jun Mizutani 0-3 and staring in the face of defeat, Gao refused to give up the fight and four game wins on the bounce for the Singapore star completed a sensational 4-3 comeback (11-13, 5-11, 12-14, 11-7, 11-7, 11-8, 11-4).

Wang Liqin and Yan Sen add another title to their collection (Paris 2003)

Victory two years back in Osaka, Wang Liqin and Yan Sen have now been crowned men’s doubles World champions for the second time! The title favourites produced another fine display as a pair, proving too strong for Kong Linghui and Wang Hao in the final to leave the French capital with the trophy (11-9, 11-8, 7-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-5).

Wang Nan champion again (Paris 2003)

Momentum against her but Wang Nan holds on in an epic match against Zhang Yining, claiming the seventh and deciding game to lift the trophy once again (11-7, 11-8, 11-4, 5-11, 6-11, 8-11, 11-5).

It’s thus a repeat outcome of the Eindhoven 1999 women’s singles final as Wang Nan emerges victorious over Zhang Yining on the biggest of stages. Congratulations to the Paris 2003 women’s singles champion!

What a comeback! (Paris 2003)

Talk about comeback drama! Wang Nan looked to be cruising three games into the final with the 1999 and 2001 champion racing into a seemingly unassailable 3-0 lead. Yet, as it turns out there was still plenty of time for Zhang Yining to make an impact, hitting back with three consecutive game wins of her own to draw the tie level at 3-3. Amazing action here – who knows which way this one is going!?

Zhang Yining vs Wang Nan for gold (Paris 2003)

It’s final time, Zhang Yining and Wang Nan are about to meet head-to-head for women’s singles glory. Get ready for what should be a thrilling contest.

Defending champion Wang Liqin is out!!! (Paris 2003)

Well would you believe it? Defending men’s singles champion Wang Liqin won’t be making it back-to-back World Championships successes after falling at the quarter-finals stage in Paris.

Holding a 3-1 advantage, China’s Wang Liqin looked well on his way to claiming another ticket to the last four needing just one more game to go in his favour. However, in a crazy twist of fate Werner Schlager hit back with the Austrian collecting the next three games in a row to snatch an unlikely victory (5-11, 11-5, 8-11, 13-15, 11-9, 13-11, 11-5). We’ve also lost 1999 runner-up Ma Lin following his seven-game loss to Korean defender Joo Saehyuk (13-11, 10-12, 8-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-8, 11-9).
