Stunning comeback sees Guo Yue crowned champion!!! (Zagreb 2007(

What a comeback! Guo Yue has recovered from a 1-3 deficit to see off Li Xiaoxia 4-3 in an epic women’s singles final (8-11, 11-7, 4-11, 2-11, 11-5, 11-2, 11-8). At the halfway stage in the match the win looked to be Li’s to lose but an incredible display of determination sees Guo fight back, pulling off a victory for the ages.

Li Xiaoxia closing in (Zagreb 2007)

Four games down and it is Li Xiaoxia who is closing in on an unlikely title success here in Zagreb, leading Guo Yue by a 3-1 margin.

Responsible for three-time champion Wang Nan’s quarter-final exit, Li also posted victory over Shanghai 2005 runner-up Guo Yan one round later. Now at the final hurdle Li is just one game away from adding Guo Yue’s name to the list as well!

Women’s Singles title decider (Zagreb 2007)

Here we go! Buckle up for what promises to be a thrilling ride as Guo Yue and Li Xiaoxia go head-to-head for the 2007 World Championships women’s singles crown – who will be smiling atop the medals podium?

Chen Qi and Ma Lin land doubles title (Zagreb 2007)

The 2007 World Championships men’s doubles gold medal has been awarded to Chen Qi and Ma Lin following their 4-2 victory over Wang Hao and Wang Liqin in an all-China final (6-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-3, 11-9, 11-9). Congratulations to Chen and Ma!

Defending champion Zhang Yining is out! (Zagreb 2007)

Champion of the world two years back in Shanghai, Zhang Yining will only hold that label for one more day after her attempt to make it back-to-back women’s singles finals on the World Championships stage fell through.

Guo Yue proved simply too hot to handle for Zhang on this occasion, needing just the four games to see off the title favourite (11-8, 11-7, 11-9, 11-4). We’ve also lost the runner-up from Shanghai 2005 with Guo Yan falling to Li Xiaoxia (11-7, 5-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-5).

Ryu Seungmin knocks out Timo Boll (Zagreb 2007)

2004 Olympic champion Ryu Seungmin is through to the semi-finals here in Zagreb following a fantastic display in his meeting with former World no.1 Timo Boll!

Two of the sport’s finest battling it out on the big stage, spectators were anticipating a close contest but in reality the match panned out in a convincing win for Ryu with the Korean besting his German rival in straight games (11-9, 11-7, 11-3, 14-12).
