Trophy Cup Taking A Wait & See Approach

TULARE, Calif. – The Abreu Vineyards 27th annual Trophy Cup Presented By Rudeen Racing is scheduled for Oct. 15-17 at Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway, but only time will tell if there is a one year delay in running the $200,000 event for winged 360 sprints.

California’s current four stage plan states that it isn’t until the final stage when sports may have fans in the stands. The plan also indicates a move to stage four will happen when a vaccine is available. Trophy Cup founder Dave Pusateri has stated the grandstands in Tulare must be available for fans in order to run the event.

On Friday, June 12, the state moved into stage three except for seven counties that have displayed a particularly high number of cases of virus infection per capita. While stage three allows sports events, no fans are allowed and counties have final control of a race track opening.

California’s fairgrounds tracks have multiple layers of approval needed to open and several facilities have yet to put a car on track this year. The status of tracks seems prone to change and June 12-13 saw tracks in Visalia, Lemoore, Susanville, Yreka and Petaluma race for the first time this year.

At some point in August a decision will be made on this year’s Cup.
