KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Officials from Stewart-Haas Racing have confirmed that two team employees have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
In a statement released Friday evening, the race team confirmed that two crew members who work in the team’s race shop in Kannapolis, N.C., have been diagnosed with the virus.
Importantly, Stewart-Haas Racing confirmed that the two crew members who were diagnosed have had no contact with the crew members that travel to the race track each week.
“Stewart-Haas Racing has experienced two positive COVID-19 test results, neither of which involve personnel who travel to race events,” the statement read. “Robust protocols have been in place and continue to be followed diligently to mitigate the spread of the virus while maintaining the health and safety of all members of the organization and greater community.”
Stewart-Haas Racing is the first NASCAR team to publicly confirm a positive COVID-19 case.
