DAVENPORT, Iowa – Frank Heckenast Jr. started ninth and chased down Bobby Pierce en route to winning Thursday’s MARS Racing Series feature at Davenport Speedway.

Pierce earned a starting spot on the front row after switching to a backup car after hot laps when his engine soured. He then went out and won his heat race, which led to his front row starting position.

Heckenast, meanwhile, broke into the top-five early during the feature but had to chase down Pierce. He did that on the 25th lap, slipping by Pierce to take the race lead. He wouldn’t give up the top spot again, leading the rest of the way to earn the victory.

Allen Weisser finished second, followed by Brian Shirley, Chris Simpson and Brian Birkhofer.

Pierce finished sixth after slipping over the top of the track while trying to chase Heckenast back down.

The finish:

Frank Heckenast Jr., Allen Weisser, Brian Shirley, Chris Simpson, Brian Birkhofer, Bobby Pierce, Chad Holladay, Daryn Klein, Rich Bell, Justin Kay, Jason Feger, Spencer Diercks, Ryan Unzicker, Jonathan Brauns, Bob Gardner, Matt Furman, Jason Wagner, Jake Miller, Myles Moos, Tegan Evans, Joel Callahan.
